Online Driver

Education Program

Through a partnership with the Edward Savioz Driver Training School, the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) offers a standardized online driver education theory class for high school students. The online program, approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, will provide students the opportunity to learn safe driving methods and gain the perceptual experience needed to drive in today’s environment.

Who can take these courses?

Any high school student under the age of 18 with or without a valid PA drivers license or learners permit may take the online instruction course.

What is the benefit of taking the online class?

Successful completion of the Drivers Education theory course will help prepare the student to take the required PA drivers examination. Additionally, students who complete the 30-hour course will receive a Certificate of Completion which may entitle the student to a 10% automobile insurance discount. Families should contact their automobile insurance carrier to verify any premium discounts.  Reduction of insurance premium is granted at the discretion of the insurance company. Depending on school district policy, students may receive .25 academic credits for completing online instruction.

Course Information

  • Online instruction comprises 30 hours of instruction
  • Curriculum complies with current PDE regulations and all instructors are PDE-certified
  • Students who register for online instruction may access the course and their private course information 24 hours a dayTech support is available for students registered for the online course from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., seven days a week.
