MCIU was notified on January 8, 2016 that we have been awarded a Pre-K Counts grant. The grant will allow us to deliver high-quality pre-kindergarten programs to 100 age-appropriate children at no cost to income eligible families. Children must be between age three and the entry age for kindergarten and living in families earning up to 300 percent of the poverty level (family of four with gross income of $71,550). Children may also be impacted by other risk factors, such as English Language Learners, family in the welfare system, or having disabilities or developmental delays.
In addition, MCIU facilities staff have been working diligently on preparing a new Early Learning Academy at the 1605 West Main Street building which will house 5 Pre-K Counts classrooms in February 2016. In July, the Early Learning Academy will add 2 Head Start classrooms and 4 Early Intervention classrooms.
It is our hope that as more funding becomes available from the state, we will be able to increase the number of children served by the MCIU Pre-K Counts program.
