On August 19th, the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) kicked off the 2024-2025 school year with our annual Opening Day Celebration, generously hosted by the North Penn School District at North Penn High School. The event provided a morning of connection, inspiration, and reinvigoration as we look ahead, ready to make a significant impact in the communities we serve.
Notable highlights of this year’s event included insightful presentations from MCIU’s Leadership Team and the debut of video spotlights showcasing our dedicated staff. These spotlights illuminated the key role each MCIU employee plays in enhancing our organizational impact, capturing personal stories and reflections that underscore their connection to MCIU. These incredible stories not only reinforced our shared values but also brought our mission to life, offering both inspiration and an opportunity for reflection to all attendees.
During the ceremony, we celebrated significant milestones for individuals within the organization, acknowledging their years of dedicated service with the IU. We also honored those who made exceptional contributions with our annual awards:
- The Bill Bainbridge Award for cross-divisional impact was presented to Matthew Hammel, Office of Early Childhood Services.
- The Cynthia E. Welder Award for individuals and job-site partners supporting special education students was awarded to Bridget Abrams, Office of Student Services, and Stein Seal Construction.
- The Annie Sullivan Award, sponsored by PAIU and named for Helen Keller’s teacher, recognized Sean Martin, Office of Student Services, for his commitment to students with disabilities.
- The Bobbie S. Goodman Award, for exemplifying kindness, support, and loyalty to the MCIU mission, went to Lisa Lamesta, Office of Student Services.
- The Gail Colfelt Award, honoring strong collegiality, advocacy, and mentorship, was awarded to April Groman, Office of Student Services.
Thank you to this year’s speakers, our dedicated staff, and everyone who contributed to making the day a success. We look forward to witnessing the amazing work and contributions you bring to our community this year!
