The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) commenced the new academic year with an engaging Opening Day assembly on August 21st. Thanks to the generous support of the North Penn School District, the entire MCIU staff gathered at the high school’s auditorium for a day of inspiration, reflection, and rejuvenation in preparation for the year ahead.
The event featured several highlights, including a featured keynote presentation by internationally renowned speaker and best-selling author, Penny Zenker, aka The Focusologist. With her expertise in focus and productivity, Zenker’s presentation was centered around the concept of “reset moments” – pivotal junctures that emphasize the importance of self-reflection and realignment in achieving mental, personal and organizational objectives.
Following the annual Opening Day tradition, MCIU used the occasion to celebrate the commitment of its dedicated staff members for their years of service, with several individuals approaching or surpassing an impressive 40 years with the IU. In addition, the presentation included the announcement of several awards to employees who have made exceptional contributions to delivering educational services to students across Montgomery County.
The award recipients were as follows:
  • The Bill Bainbridge Award, provided to a staff member for going above and beyond in making a cross-divisional impact in the workplace, was awarded to Jessica Manning
  • The Cynthia E. Welder Award for individuals and job-site partners who gives tireless support to special educational students throughout the county was given to Sousan Robinson, Amy McEachern, and Willow Grove YMCA.
  • The Annie Sullivan Award, an award sponsored by PAIU and named for Hellen Keller’s teacher and friend acknowledging individuals for their care, awareness and acceptance of students with disabilities, was presented to Robert Devico and Lori Sheetz.
  • The Bobbie S. Goodman Award, given to an employee who exemplifies kindness, support and loyalty to the MCIU mission, was awarded to John McGranaghan.
  • The Gail Colfelt Award, honored to the staff member demonstrating strong collegiality, advocacy and mentorship, was given to Michael Troilo
With much enthusiasm, MCIU eagerly looks ahead to the upcoming school year, ready to offer visionary leadership, impactful services, and strategic solutions that maximize access and opportunities for all learners.
