The Shapiro Administration recently announced a $3.9 million investment in pre-apprenticeship programs for Pennsylvania high school students, designed to equip them with valuable skills for high-demand careers. As part of this workforce development initiative, MCIU will receive $395,000 to assist in the creation of pre-apprenticeship programs in electrical, manufacturing, and welding in Montgomery County’s CTCs. This investment will not only enhance the county’s career and technical education programs, but also allow for more hands-on learning experiences to better prepare students for successful futures in these growing industries.
This funding was made possible through a partnership between the Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), with the goal of strengthening the “school-to-workforce pipeline” by supporting both new and existing pre-apprenticeship programs across the state.
“We are excited to work with our local CTC’s in assisting them with integrating Pre-Apprenticeship into their Electrical, Manufacturing, and Welding programs,” said Daniel Chominski, Program Administrator for College & Career Readiness. “This grant will set the groundwork for Pre-Apprenticeship in our CTC’s and will provide their students with equipment, tools, and certifications that will create an enriching and valuable Pre-Apprenticeship experience.”
We look forward to seeing how this investment will enhance opportunities for our students and help forge stronger pathways to fill job openings in these growing fields. Thank you to MCIU’s own Daniel Chominski, Kendall Glouner-Zeamer, Megan Hockenbrock, and Amanda Wagner for their instrumental efforts in procuring this grant.
