MCIU Head Start partners with the Montgomery County Community College Nursing Program to provide in classroom experiences to nursing students during their units on communication with differing ages of clientele. Three times throughout the school year, approximately two nursing students will be invited to attend a designated classroom to observe targeted students for a half-day session. During these visits, the nursing students should be engaging with the Head Start children and acquiring information about their current physical state (i.e. approximate height, weight, gross motor functioning, etc.) to make estimates on the child’s progress and development in comparison to the nationally accepted norms.

The MCIU Head Start program hopes to begin a long lasting partnership with the Montgomery County Community College Education Program to include student teaching opportunities for college students aspiring to obtain their Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
