The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) provides a highly structured, individualized learning environment for students in grades K-12 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Our program is designed to foster meaningful growth by integrating specialized instruction, therapy supports, and sensory-based interventions tailored to each student’s unique needs.

A Comprehensive Approach to Learning

Our small student-to-staff ratio ensures that each student receives the dedicated attention and support they need. A team of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), occupational therapists (OTs), physical therapists (PTs), and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) collaborates to create personalized interventions that promote independence, communication, and positive social behaviors.

Key Features of Our Program

  • Structured Classrooms: Designed to enhance focus, engagement, and individualized learning.
  • Sensory & Calming Spaces: Providing students with self-regulation tools to support emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Integrated Therapy Supports: Speech, occupational, and physical therapy embedded into daily instruction.
  • Individualized Behavioral Supports: Tailored plans to encourage self-regulation, skill development, and social engagement.
  • Collaborative Support Team: Our program includes BCBAs, OTs, PTs, SLPs, vision and hearing specialists, and audiologists, ensuring a holistic approach to student development.
  • Foundational Academic Skill Development: Curriculum and interventions designed to build core academic competencies alongside social and behavioral growth.
