What a great morning at the MCIU Early Learning Academy!  Along with it being the first day of school for our Head Start Program, we were fortunate enough to host Senator Bob Casey at our ELA this morning.  Senator Casey was given a tour of our Head Start, Pre-K Counts, Early Intervention, and Intensive Emotional Support classrooms and was able to spend time reading a book to one of our Head Start Classrooms.  MCIU staff members were on hand to speak about the importance of legislators advocating for early childhood funding in order to give our early learners the best possible start on their educational journey.

Senator Casey provided information about his “Five Freedoms for America’s Children” agenda. The five freedoms outlined in the legislative plan include the freedom to be healthy, to be economically secure, to learn, freedom from hunger and freedom to be safe from harm.

Senator Casey also spent time listening to the concerns of some of our families in regards to the devastation in our community as a result of Hurricane Ida. Families communicated the difficulties they endure while being displaced from the storm. Residents who are in need should visit: www.montcopa.org/ida for local resources.
